Transparent - now with sound in online browser play!

Bisquixe Interpreter Enables Sound for Online Play in Parser Text Adventures

Transparent was my first parser game, and it was quite complicated. I wanted a haunted house game that employed live sound for atmosphere almost like a radio play. 

Unfortunately, back in 2014 Inform 7 games could only use audio if a player downloaded the game file and played it in a multimedia-enabled interpreter program. Any version of the game compiled for web would be silent.

Brian Rushton - AKA Mathbrush has developed the online Bisquixe interpreter which manages multimedia including sound in a browser online and asked to implement Transparent as an example since it is one of the few games that tried to do a lot with sound, and it works! You can experience this game without downloading additional files online in a browser as originally intended (and with a lot of fixes to make gameplay less annoying from when it was originally released.)

Transparent is an old-school parser text adventure  with an inventory limit, a camera system, and many random elements that often proved frustrating to initial players. It's been smoothed over a bit over the years. It may not be for everyone, but at the time it was my interpretation of an old school Infocom-style title but with creepy sounds. (Infocom did include sounds in some editions of The Lurking Horror but it was the same issue where not every person's setup supported audio so any sounds were ambiance only and not gameplay related.)

Now you can play Transparent version 8 online including all multimedia without downloading any extra files. You can also download the v8 zip and play locally by running index.html in most modern browsers.
